Azalea Arrangement in Chalkboard Crate

image

For a recent outdoor luncheon, I went looking in the garden for flowers to use in a centerpiece. Azaleas were at their peak so I decided to showcase them on a buffet station.  The guests who would be attending this garden luncheon were the women of the International Club of Philadelphia.  Members of this club all originate from other countries or are Americans who have lived abroad. They are a fascinating group of women with interesting lives.  One of our members is 99 years young! I love getting together with these dynamic  women.

I thought creating  a huge arrangement in a chalkboard crate with cascading blazing coral azalea branches would look spectacular, contrast well against the black and be as colorful as the women in this group. Using google  translator I learned how to say “Welcome Friends” in several of the native languages of the guests attending, and wrote these  in chalk on all sides of the  crate. To see how I upcycled a wine crate into a planter, please click here.  I loved how this arrangement turned out and was at once beautiful and a conversation piece.

This idea can easily be adapted for a family reunion, wedding shower, graduation party or even a wine tasting.  The chalkboard surface is perfect for writing any message.  Set your imagination free and have fun with this concept! Thanks for visiting today.

  1. I felt very welcomed with the Dutch “welkom vrienden” message. Another wonderful display of artistry Johanna! The blue and pink in your garden is stunning right now.

  2. What a fun idea! And what beautiful azaleas!!! My goodness!!! They must really grow in great abundance in your garden! We lost the two at our front steps over the winter. Not sure what to put there now.

I love the photo of you and your youthful friend! It’s wonderful that she is fully participatory and apparently having a grand time!

    Enjoy your weekend!

    • Everything is blooming right now in our area. We lost all our camellias and several rhodies this winter so I know how you feel, Alycia. I had a friend working in KC this week and she posted quite a few beautiful pictures of your area. I would plant more azaleas or cherry laurel. My firend Frieda is an inspiration! Teaches yoga!
