Just reading this title you know it must be a new year! Out with the old blender that leaked and in with the new, Ninja power blender. First order of business, a healthy power smoothie chock full of fiber, nutrients, good fat, antioxidants and tons of nutrients. Tropical fruit and berries for taste, avocado for good fat, lime juice and ginger for notes of brightness, kale for its nutritional goodness, green tea for a huge dose of antioxidants and for adding the necessary liquid without calories. With smoothies the quantites are approximate and the liquid varies with the fruit’s water content. Same with the sweetness. Using frozen fruit precludes the need to add ice. Not the prettiest color because of the kale but this smoothie scores on the nutritious scale. Here’s to a healthy New Year!
AVOCADO KALE GREEN TEA TROPICAL SMOOTHIE
1 avocado, peeled and pitted
1 c frozen chopped kale
juice of 1 fresh lime
1 teaspoon of fresh ginger, peeled and roughly chopped
16 oz frozen tropical fuit mix (pineapple, banana, mango, strawberries)
1 handful of frozen blueberries
1 handful of frozen raspberries
1 heaping T of fresh cranberries(optional)
2 c of freshly brewed green tea, cooled
1 c or more of orange juice as needed to blend
Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Taste and add a bit of honey to sweeten if desired. Serve immediately.
Just what the doctor ordered after all the rich food over the holidays. I’m liking this, especially with the ginger and lime.
