Halloween Front Porch

On daily walks I pass by my friend Tracey’s charming home and always admire her front porch.   This porch is not very big but Tracey’s astute design eye  has made this porch live large.  There are great inspiration ideas to take away.   Now decked out for Halloween, I had to invite you for a visit.  Halloween touches have been woven into the regular décor, playful yet tastefully done.  Note the 3 comfortable and welcoming seating areas in this tiny  space.  Dressed for Halloween, the porch is ready for goblins and ghosts!

The inviting porch beckons from the street and says, ” Welcome!”.

A large wooden bench with its pale blue upholstery is a dramatic but comfortable seating area that anchors the space and provides privacy from the twin’s neighbor. Plain twill cushions with inspiring quotes are fun accents. The main seating area is anchored by a neutral sisal.

Isn’t this table fantastic? It’s generous size provides plenty of space to rest drinks, serve food, play a board game and stage ever changing vignettes including this Halloween composition. Love those wheels and the bold rivet detailing along the top.

Natural accents in classic urns tie the garden spaces to the porch décor, provide symmetry in an asymmetrical space and bring an elegant element to the intimate space. A pumpkin is all is needed to tie into the festive Halloween theme. Soft candlelight glows from the pair of lanterns.

A well curated collection of seasonal decorative accents is festive and fun. Note the functional woven storage baskets that blend unobtrusively into the porch décor.

A charming seating area opposite the black sofa brings a dose of nostalgia with its comfortable rocking chairs with complimentary blue and tan striped cushions. The darling table between the rockers satisfies both functional needs and 2 levels  of display surface for an ever changing tableau of collectibles.

The tables offer a cheerful Halloween welcome. They are redecorated seasonally and bring much charm and warmth to the space.

Clever draping with spider’s web netting brings a layer of mystery to the seasonal space. At night it is illuminated with orange mini lights.  This gorgeous lantern is from Pier 1 and provides soft glowing candlelight at nightfall.

Don’t you just want to sit a spell on this charming porch?

The Pumpkin
“Oh, fruit loved of boyhood! the old days recalling,
When wood-grapes were purpling and brown nuts were falling!
When wild, ugly faces we carved in its skin,
Glaring out through the dark with a candle within!
When we laughed round the corn-heap, with hearts all in tune,
Our chair a broad pumpkin,—our lantern the moon,
Telling tales of the fairy who travelled like steam,
In a pumpkin-shell coach, with two rats for her team!”

  1. I know Tray! Her sophisticated, yet welcoming, porch is a respite from the cares of the world … She is gracious enough to allow me to spend lazy summer afternoons and brisk autumnal evenings on that very porch … chatting with her and retreating from the hectic day-in and day-out drudgery while basking in the serenity that this intimate space brings … Thank you, Tracey!

    • What an eloquent tribute to Tracey and her lovely porch Anthony! I should have had YOU write the introduction😄. If I find Tracey outside I stop and relax on her porch too! Maybe I will meet you there one day. We had hoped to do a progressive porch party Tracey and me along with another friend. Next summer. Ask to be invited.
